Punters have been lumping on Hatton in the sort of patriotic style normally only reserved for the likes of the England football and cricket team. However, it's hardly the case that no-one will back Mayweather. Stan James (free £25 bet) pushed him out to a best price of 4/7 but soon had to cut him back into 1/2. The generally available 8/15 is now the top price on the American. The draw is a best-priced 22/1 with Stan James
But that’s not the only way that punters have been siding with Hatton. William Hill report plenty of support for him in their BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award market and have subsequently cut his price from 7/2 to 11/4. Obviously, with the BBC vote taking place on Sunday evening, Hatton would boost his chances of winning the award with victory in Las Vegas, so it make would make sense to back him in this market rather than at the shorter odds to win the fight. If you decide to go down this route, both Stan James still have Hatton at 7/2 behind market leader Lewis Hamilton, who is a best-priced 4/11 with bet365.
As for a prediction, I‘ll be cheering for the Englishman of course but I can‘t get myself to back him. Sure, his style of boxing will give the American plenty to think about, especially in the early rounds but Mayweather is probably the most athletic boxer in the profession. That should allow him to pile up the points early and he will then be in a position to cruise to victory.
