NO MORE BETS ON WEMBLEY CUP FINAL, SAY BOOKIES.......Bookmakers William Hill have stopped taking bets on Wembley Stadium being unable to stage the FA Cup Final this year after taking a string of bets that it will be played elsewhere, at odds of 4/1, shortly before rumours began to circulate that the Final will once again have to be moved.
'We had been offering 1/7 that the Final would be at Wembley and 4/1 that it would be played somewhere else, probably Cardiff. But, just like last year when the Final should have been played there. we started to see plenty of people wanting to bet against it being ready, and almost noone prepared to bet that it will be. So we have decided to close the book before we end up with a huge liability.Las yeat's debacle cost us a five figure sum to shrewd punters' said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.'Hopefully, though , Wembley will be ready in time for the 2018 World Cup - we're 100/1 that it won't -which Gordon Brown wants us to host.'
As a consequence, Hills have cut their odds about the Olympic Stadium NOT being ready in time for the 2012 London Olympics from 16/1 to 12/1. 'They only have five years to get it finished, and as far as we can see have actually done nothing at all so far to allay fears that this could be an even bigger embarrassment to the country than the on-going Wembley Stadium fiasco' added Sharpe.
